Activities of daily living include:

- Toileting
- Continence
- Transferring ( such as from a bed to a chair)
Long term care insurance helps to protect your savings, preserve you independence and give you choices by providing financial support to assist your care in any setting such as:
- Your home
- Your community (examples could include adult day care or hospice care)
- An assisted living facility or
- Nursing home
You can purchase a long term care policy typically as young as 18 and up to age 80 in most cases.
You can select a daily benefit ranging from $50 a day to $500 a day after a waiting period of 30 days or more. Maximum benefit periods can range from 5 or more years to even lifetime depending on your age at issue. A cost of living rider is also typically available to help minimize inflationary increases associated with long term care expenses.
