New- Frequently Asked Questions About Massachusetts Auto Reform (Click Here)
We offer private passenger personal auto insurance for vehicles registered in Massachusetts. Most people understand the basic coverages available on an auto insurance policy (such as bodily injury to others, coverage for damage to your vehicle as well as comprehensive coverage to cover items such as glass claims, vandalism, fire damage and theft). A common misconception is that bodily injury to others liability limits can under some circumstances be lower for older vehicles or vehicles that drive a small number of miles each year. In fact, it makes no matter how new or old your car is, how valuable it is or how much or little you drive it in any given year. In addition, it is always possible that an "older" car might be more vulnerable to mechanical failure than a newer model that you might own.
In Massachusetts, it is required that you purchase minimum compulsory insurance parts 1 - 4 as noted below (please refer to the latest edition of the Massachusetts Automobile Insurance Policy for complete policy details, located at Automobile Insurers Bureau of Massachusetts):
- Part 1: Bodily Injury to others. (The compulsory limit is $20,000 per person and $40,000 per accident for damages to anyone injured or killed in an accident that occurs in MA
- Part 2: Personal Injury protection (The compulsory limit is $8,000)
- Part 3: Bodily Injury caused by an uninsured auto (The compulsory limit is $20,000 per person and $40,000 per accident) for injuries to you or others in your vehicle caused by an uninsured or unidentified driver.
- Part 4: Property Damage (The compulsory limit is $5,000) for damage to another person's property (auto, home etc.) along with costs associate loss of use of that property when you are "at fault"
These compulsory limits are woefully inadequate and should never be relied on to protect you and your household members. Our skilled and licensed staff will be happy to explain all 12 coverage parts and help to provide you with sufficient information for you to make an educated decision before you purchase this coverage.
